Tell Biden—Comply with the ICJ Ruling: End all arms and military funding to Israel
A Time-sensitive message from MPowerChange: add your voice!!
In a stunning blow to Israel, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel is plausibly committing a genocide in Gaza. This historic moment was only possible because of South Africa’s moral courage.
Israel was ordered to comply with six separate measures from the court meant to stop ongoing genocidal acts and prevent future ones, including an “immediate and effective” order to ensure the entry of food, water, medicine and other humanitarian needs into Gaza and report to the court on its compliance with all orders.
The fight is far from over. What today’s decision did not do is formally demand a ceasefire — so we will have to do it for them.
Today’s verdict by itself cannot stop the genocide. But our global movement for Palestinian liberation can and will.
The ICJ ruling also affirms that other states have an obligation to prevent and punish the crime of genocide.
The eyes of the world now turn to Biden and the U.S. government.
Biden now has a decision to make: Will the United States continue the flow of arms and military aid to Israel, even after the International Court of Justice has deemed it as plausibly engaged in genocide?
Tell President Biden: Listen to the ICJ ruling. Call for a ceasefire now, end all arms and military funding to Israel, and DO NOT use your veto power in the UN Security Council to shield Israel of their duty to comply with orders of ICJ.
The Narrative Gap, as coined by Lisa Sharon Harper, is the distance between the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves, including how we got here and what it will take to make things right. In our world today, competing narratives vie for our loyalty, dividing society and the church, therefore making justice impossible. Our mission is help communities shrink the narrative gap, by identifying core issues and building community capacity so they might work toward common solutions for a just world. Here on the Freedom Road Substack, we can converse together on ways to shrink that narrative gap and help ensure everyones’ stories are told.
