An American Food Shortage Crisis
If the government goes unfunded, people will go hungry. We need action from Congress on this, and we need a strong Farm Bill passed in 2023.
Hey Friends,
We at Freedom Road are standing with numerous other organizations in support of the Farm Bill. Read more about the Farm Bill, and then read about why it matters in this message from our friends at Feeding America.
Together we can make a difference!

DID YOU KNOW? Since the pandemic, food insecurity has increased among families with children and communities of color, who already faced hunger at much higher rates before the pandemic. – Feeding America
Dear Friends,
A government shutdown will further exacerbate the food crisis faced by the more than 200 food banks in the Feeding America network serving every county in the country. During a prolonged shutdown, food banks will be the first, and potentially only, option for assistance for millions of people whose paychecks or federal food assistance benefits could be disrupted. On top of that, a shutdown would further delay Congress’ consideration of our country’s most meaningful food and agriculture legislation, the farm bill, which impacts nearly every federal program that helps ease the strain and stress of hunger in communities across the country.
As a faith community, we are committed to addressing the issues that prevent individuals and families from being able to thrive, including access to nutritious food. Please join us in taking action TODAY to ask Congress to take urgent action to ensure that the government is funded, and a bipartisan farm bill is considered—keeping federal food assistance programs strong during both deliberations. Let’s keep working together to help all members of our community access the food they need to thrive!

The Narrative Gap, as coined by Lisa Sharon Harper, is the distance between the stories that we tell ourselves about ourselves, including how we got here and what it will take to make things right. In our world today, competing narratives vie for our loyalty, dividing society and the church, therefore making justice impossible. Our mission is help communities shrink the narrative gap, by identifying core issues and building community capacity so they might work toward common solutions for a just world. Here on the Freedom Road Substack, we can converse together on ways to shrink that narrative gap and help ensure everyones’ stories are told.
